Pakistani and Italian Women Embark on Historic K2 Expedition

In commemoration of the 70th anniversary of K2, an expedition with Pakistani and Italian women mountaineers sets off for the first summit of K2. The K2 Jubilee Expedition, comprising a team of Pakistani and Italian women mountaineers, commenced with a grand inaugural ceremony in Skardu.

The Governor of Gilgit-Baltistan, Syed Mehdi Shah, along with EVK2CNR President Agostino Da Polenza, Mishar Baltistan, mountaineers, and others, participated in the event. The women’s expedition includes a team of four Italian and four Pakistani mountaineers, symbolizing a joint effort in the spirit of excellent mountaineering performance. Organized by the Italian Alpine Club and supported by EVK2CNR, this expedition is a significant part of the jubilee celebrations marking the 70th anniversary of the first summit of K2.

Governor Syed Mehdi Shah praised the Italian Alpine Club for promoting women mountaineers. He emphasized that women possess equal courage and skill in conquering peaks and stressed the importance of providing opportunities for them to showcase their talents. He also appreciated the role of EVK2CNR in promoting environmental tourism in Gilgit-Baltistan for over two decades.

Mr. Agostino Da Polenza highlighted Italy's century-long, enduring relationship with K2. He stated that this expedition would further strengthen the robust relations between Pakistan and Italy while promoting adventure tourism in Pakistan.
